Ganesh Visarjan in Hyderabad: “No Idol Immersion at Tank Bund,” Announce Police and GHMC.

The Telangana High Court has clarified that the 2021 guidelines for the immersion of Ganesh idols in Hyderabad’s Hussain Sagar lake must be followed. As per these guidelines, only clay and eco-friendly idols are allowed to be immersed in Hussain Sagar, while idols made of Plaster of Paris (PoP) should be immersed in artificial water tanks provided by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC).

Hyderabad: Ahead of Ganesh Visarjan in Hyderabad, the Telangana High Court reiterated that guidelines from 2021 regarding the immersion of Ganesh idols in Hussain Sagar Lake must be strictly followed. As per these guidelines, only clay and eco-friendly idols are allowed to be immersed in Hussain Sagar, while idols made of Plaster of Paris (PoP) must be immersed in artificial water tanks set up by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC).

Restrictions on Idol Immersion at Tank Bund: The Telangana High Court has explicitly banned the immersion of Ganesh idols at Tank Bund in Hussain Sagar. This decision led to the installation of flex banners in Tank Bund and surrounding areas, stating that no idol immersion is allowed. Iron fences have also been erected to enforce the ban. However, it remains unclear which department is responsible for these arrangements, and GHMC officials have not yet provided clarity on this matter.

Portable Ponds for Eco-Friendly Immersion: To facilitate eco-friendly immersion practices, the GHMC has prepared 73 portable immersion ponds across different zones in Hyderabad. These include 27 “baby ponds” inside lakes, 24 portable prefabricated water tanks, and 22 excavated ponds. These facilities are designed to accommodate idols ranging from 2 to 6 feet in height, ensuring compliance with the court’s directives against immersing PoP idols in Hussain Sagar.
