NIMS Hits 1,000 Kidney Transplants Mark in 10 Years

Hyderabad: The Urology team at Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) has successfully completed 1,000 kidney transplants over the past decade, highlighting a major achievement for the hospital’s renal transplant program.

  • Over the last 10 years, except for the disruption caused by the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, the team consistently performed over 100 transplants annually.
  • These transplants were carried out in collaboration with the Jeevandan cadaver transplantation program, which facilitates organ donations from deceased donors.
  • This year alone, the team conducted 101 kidney transplants, consisting of:
    • 55 live-related transplants (where the donor is a family member or relative)
    • 46 deceased donor transplants (from cadaver donations)

NIMS continues to play a key role in addressing kidney failure cases through its robust transplant program.
