Tirupati, 1st March: Former CM, Leader of Opposition and TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu was today detained at Tirupati Airport by the police.
Naidu was going to attend election campaigning in Chittoor district. According to reports, after the police stopped him from leaving the airport, Chandrababu Naidu sat down on the floor protesting his detention.
The Chandrababu Naidu picked up an argument with the police officials and demanded to know why he was being prevented from going to Tirupati and Chittoor.
Naidu, who arrived at Tirupati from Hyderabad to participate in a protest in Tirupati against the high-handed actions of the local civic authorities.
According to reports, Chittoor and Tirupati urban police have denied permission to Chandrababu Naidu’s protest citing Covid-19 guidelines and model code of conduct. And having refused to grant permission for the protest, the Tirupati Urban police sought to detain the TDP president at the Tirupati airport.
Naidu angrily questioned the police officials “I have been Chief Minister for 14 years and am now the Leader of Opposition. Don’t I have the right to protest? and sat on the airport lounge floor.
According to other sources, the Tirupati and Chittoor police placed important TDP leaders under house arrest ahead of Naidu’s visit.
