Mother, Brother Booked for Covering Farmer’s Body in Tiranga in UP

SP added only the body of a person given a national honor can be draped in a tricolour like this.

Baljinder Singh a farmer who died in a road accident on his way to join the farmers’ protest in Ghaziabad.

His last rites were done on Wednesday, “His family apparently wrapped Baljinder’s body in the tricolour (National Flag) before the cremation.

The UP police have booked Mother and Brother of a 32-year-old farmer for covering his body in tricolour ahead of his last rites in the Pilibhit district on Thursday.

According to SHO, Baljinder’s mother, Jasveer Kaur, and brother Gurvinder Singh have been named in the FIR filed on the complaint of Ashutosh Raghuvanshi.

Jai Prakash, Pilibhit SP told median that, Baljinder Singh, the farmer, reportedly died in a road accident his way to join the farmers’ protest in Ghaziabad. “His family reportedly cover Baljinder’s body in the tricolour before the cremation. This is an insult to the national flag.” He added only the body of a person given a national honor can be draped in a tricolour like this. “…a case has been registered against the mother and brother of deceased.” said Prakash (SP).

Prakash said the FIR has been registered under the Prevention of Insults to the National Honor Act, which provides for imprisonment of up to three years. “The matter is being investigated.”
