Hyderabad: In Hyderabad, social activists have criticized the police behavior against commoners after videos surfaced of Inspector Durga Prasad from Moghalpura police station hitting pedestrians and commuters with a lathi during his night rounds. The incident drew attention when the inspector was seen in viral videos hitting youngsters standing on the road without any enforced prohibitory orders or restrictions on public movement at night. Activist S Q Masood condemned the actions, highlighting the violation of individuals’ rights to privacy, dignity, and liberty, and filed a complaint to the Director General of Police, Telangana, demanding action against the inspector and the cessation of “Mission Chabutra”—an initiative targeting youth loitering at night. Masood emphasized that such police excesses have occurred before in the south zone and requested the Hyderabad police commissioner, Kothakota Srinivas Reddy, to address the issue.
