Hyderabad’s Milad-un-Nabi Procession Postponed to September 19 to Avoid Clash with Ganesh Procession

The Milad Committee agreed to the government’s request and decided to hold the Milad-un-Nabi procession on September 19. They also decided to celebrate the 1499th birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad on a grand scale on September 16.

Hyderabad: The Milad-un-Nabi procession in Hyderabad, initially planned to coincide with the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad, has been postponed to September 19, 2024, to avoid clashing with the Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations in the city. This decision followed a review meeting held on August 29 by Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy at the state Secretariat to discuss arrangements for Milad-un-Nabi and Ganesh Chaturthi, which will take place from September 7 to 17.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister and cabinet ministers suggested that the Milad Committee consider rescheduling the procession to prevent any conflict with the Ganesh Chaturthi festival. Ministers Ponnam Prabhakar, Sridhar Babu, Adviser to the Chief Minister Vem Narender Reddy, and MIM Floor Leader Akbaruddin Owaisi were tasked with discussing this proposal with the Milad Committee.

After a separate meeting, the Milad Committee agreed to the government’s request and decided to hold the Milad-un-Nabi procession on September 19. They also decided to celebrate the 1499th birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad on a grand scale on September 16. The committee further requested permission to organize year-long celebrations next year to mark the 1500th birth anniversary of the Prophet.

The Chief Minister assured the committee that permissions would be granted as per regulations for the decoration of mosques and processions in district centers. This approach aims to ensure harmony between the two major religious celebrations and maintain public order in the city.
