Medak Communal Violence: 8 BJP Medak Leaders Arrested, Raja Sing Arrested at Airport

Hyderabad: The Telangana police arrested BJP Medak district president Gaddam Srinivas, BJP Medak town president M. Nayam Prasad, BJYM president, and seven others for their involvement in communal violence in Medak town. These individuals will face court proceedings.

The unrest began when Minhaj ul Uloom Madarsa purchased cattle for Bakrid sacrifices, which provoked local right-wing Hindutva organizations. This led to a disturbance near the madrasa, escalating into an attack that injured several people inside. Victims were taken to a local hospital, which was also attacked by the mob, prompting police to disperse the crowd with a lathi charge.

As the violence spread, tension gripped the area, resulting in market closures and increased police patrolling. Injured individuals claimed the attack was a planned assault on the local Muslim community.

To restore order, Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code, prohibiting gatherings of four or more people, was imposed in Medak. Medak SP B Bala Swamy confirmed the arrest of nine individuals, with more arrests expected after injured suspects are discharged from the hospital.

BJP leader Raja Singh was arrested at Shamshabad airport to prevent him from visiting the area. Singh criticized the police for allegedly supporting the attackers and claimed that BJP workers were attacked while trying to stop the illegal transport of cows.

Authorities have vowed to maintain order and emphasized that citizens should report issues to the police instead of taking the law into their own hands.
