Mecca Masjid & Shahi Masjid, to open for Prayers from Saturday

Hyderabad: Both Makkah Masjid and Shahi Masjid at Public Garden to be open from Saturday, 5th September for all five prayers for public,  the worshippers are advised to bring their own prayer rugs (Jahnemaaz), and Since the Toilet and ablution at Masjids remain closed worshippers to do ablutions at home.

For the first two weeks, only 50 people will be allowed and later 100 persons will be permitted inside the mosque. The prayers would be held following physical distancing norms in view of the COVID-19 pandemic. Children below 10 years and above seniors above 60 years old people would not be allowed in the mosques.

The Mecca Masjid and Shahi Masjid has been closed to the public for more than six months from the beginning of lockdown and only the caretakers and managing staff have been attending the prayers. In fact, the mosque did not allow the public for the Eid-ul-Fitr (Ramzan) and Eid ul Adha (Bakrid) prayers also.

Children aged below 10 years and the senior citizens above 60 years will not be allowed inside the mosque, he added. The worshippers must bring their own prayer rugs/mats and do ablution at their houses only.

However, the historic 400-year-old historic mosque will not be opened for tourists anytime soon. “As of now no decision is taken on allowing tourists inside the mosque. The gates will be opened during the prayer timing and later closed,” said the official.
