Man Arrested for Forwarding Message on WhatsApp on Covid-19 in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: Cybercrime wing of The Rachakonda Police on Wednesday arrested a person for on charges of forwarding and spreading fake messages on the Covid-19 pandemic on WhatsApp.

Shaik Sadik Basha, (29-year), an electrician from Adoni in Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh had received two voice messages on WhatsApp from an unknown number on Sunday.

According to police, the voice messages were about the Covid-19 and meant to trigger panic among people, Basha, without verifying the authenticity of the voice messages immediately forwarded to his friends, relatives, and other contacts through WhatsApp.

Cybercrime received a complaint, and Shaik Sadik Basha was booked under sections of the National Disaster Management Act. He was later arrested by tracing his location.

The police have advised Netizens not to forward such panic messages, as they may become viral and create disturbance to peace and order of the public.
