Malkajgiri Railway Station Redevelopment in Full Swing: Set to Finish in Six Months

Hyderabad: The redevelopment of Malkajgiri railway station is currently in progress and is expected to be completed within six months. This project is part of the Indian Railways’ Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS), which aims to renovate and redevelop 1,275 stations across the country. Malkajgiri station has been allocated a budget of ₹27 crore for its development.

According to officials from the South Central Railway (SCR), various construction works are underway, including:

  • A 12-meter wide foot overbridge and the installation of lifts for accessibility.
  • A foundation for an AC waiting hall and an RPF office is being laid.
  • A high-level water tank has been completed.
  • Shelter construction on platforms 1 and 2 is nearing completion.
  • Ongoing work includes a VIP lounge, toilets, and bathrooms on the platform side.

Additionally, a new approach road is being formed from the old parking area to LC Gate Road on the east side of Terminal-1, facilitating direct access from Anutex Circle. Enhancements such as elevated porticos with arches, a park, water fountains, and a designated “I Love Malkajgiri” selfie point are also part of the plan.

With an increasing footfall—currently around 62 trains and approximately 1,100 daily passengers (600 general and 500 reserved ticket holders)—local residents have urged the SCR to consider adding another platform and improving facilities for passengers.

The project, which began last year, has received suggestions for additional tracks for train stabling and maintenance near Lallaguda station to reduce the need for train transfers between Kacheguda and Bolarum, enhancing overall operational efficiency.
