Hyderabad: A controversy erupted in Hyderabad on Friday after authorities disconnected the power supply to the loudspeakers at Makkah Masjid. Worshippers noticed the issue and informed AIMIM leaders, leading to the restoration of the connection. The loudspeakers on the minarets near the mosque’s main gate were silenced, causing a dispute before prayers began.
Sources indicate the Charminar police ordered the disconnection, executed by the mosque superintendent and local staff. As the situation escalated, officials from the TG Wakf Board, District Minorities Welfare Department, and other relevant authorities visited the mosque. After inquiries, they assured a probe into the incident.
Tension arose as residents and AIMIM leaders condemned the actions of the minorities welfare department and Charminar police, arguing for equal treatment of all religious sites near Charminar. In response to the incident, police presence in the Old City was increased to prevent any law and order issues.
