KTR Hopeful of Sister Kavitha’s Bail Next Week in Delhi Excise Case

Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao expressed hope that MLC K Kavitha, his sister, would receive bail soon in the Delhi excise policy case. His optimism follows the Supreme Court’s decision to grant bail to AAP leader Manish Sisodia in a related case. Kavitha was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in March and has been held in Tihar Jail for the past four to five months. A new appeal has been filed on her behalf, which is expected to be heard next week.

Earlier on 1st July Delhi High Court Denied Bail For BRS MLC K Kavitha — Duplicate

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court has dismissed BRS leader K Kavitha’s plea for bail in the excise policy case. The cases were registered against her by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and Enforcement Directorate (ED). Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma, who reserved the order on May 28, rejected the petitions on July 1.

K Kavitha, daughter of former Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, had challenged the trial court’s May 6 order dismissing her bail applications. Kavitha’s lawyer argued that she was the only woman among the 50 accused and requested bail on this basis. However, the CBI’s counsel contended that Kavitha, being very influential, could potentially threaten witnesses. The ED’s counsel claimed that Kavitha was a co-conspirator in the excise scam and involved in money laundering activities, with proceeds of crime amounting to ₹292.8 crore.

The probe agency’s counter affidavit detailed Kavitha’s alleged involvement in a conspiracy, payment of kickbacks, and the establishment of a money laundering network, asserting that her influential status could allow her to tamper with evidence and influence witnesses.
