KCR Told by PMO, Not to Receive PM at Hyderabad Airport

Hyderabad: In an exceptional and a shocking move by the Prime Minister’s Office that TS Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao (KCR) should not come to the Hyderabad airport to receive Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday.

This is perhaps the first time in the Indian history that a Chief Minister of a State has been asked to keep away from receiving the Prime Minister at the state capital.

The PM Narendra Modi is planned to arrive in Hyderabad for a visit to Bharat Biotech a pharma company in Hyderabad which developing ‘Covaxin’ for an assessment of the progress the Bharat Biotech had made in Coronavirus Vaccine.

Following the protocol, the TS government informed the PMO that the CM KCR would be receiving PM Modi at the Hyderabad airport.

However, PMO official informed Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar that CM KCR need not receive the Prime Minister, giving a go-by to established protocol and practices.

The PMO clarified that only five persons including the TS Chief Secretary, TS DGP M Mahender Reddy, Cyberabad Commissioner VC Sajjannar and Medchal District Collector Shweta Mohanty will receive the Prime Minister at Hyderabad Airport.

During this election season when the campaign for the GHMC elections has been tarnished by controversies sparked by the State BJP leadership’s unsavory comments, the Prime Minister’s decision does come as a shock, and a PMO move understood by many experts as being politically inappropriate that hurts Telangana State and its people.
