Choreographer Jani Master Granted Bail in POCSO Case

Hyderabad: Popular Telugu choreographer Sheikh Janibasha, known as Jani Master, was granted interim bail by the Telangana High Court on Thursday, October 24. He is facing serious charges under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, including assaulting, raping, and threatening a minor colleague since 2019.

Key Details:

  • Arrest: Jani Master was arrested by the Cyberabad police in Goa on September 19, following a complaint by a 21-year-old female choreographer. She alleged that the assaults began when she was a minor working under him.
  • Bail Conditions: The High Court allowed Jani Master to go free on bail but with strict conditions:
    • He cannot interfere in the victim’s life.
    • He must not influence the ongoing trial.
    • He should be available for questioning whenever required.

Suspension of National Award:

  • Following his arrest, the Information and Broadcasting Ministry suspended Jani Master’s national award for Best Choreography, which he had won for the song “Megham Karukkat” from the movie Thiruchitrambalam.
  • Initially, the court had granted him temporary bail from October 6 to 9 to attend the ceremony, but it was cancelled after his award was revoked, and he remained in jail until his recent bail.

The charges against him remain severe, including criminal intimidation, where he allegedly threatened the victim’s life and career if she reported the incidents.
