Israel Strikes in Gaza after Balloon Bombs Launched by Hamas

Gaza: Israel launched airstrikes in the Gaza Strip against Hamas targets, in retaliation for incendiary balloons (ballon Bombs) fired from the Palestinian territory.

Explosions were heard in Gaza City in the early hours of Wednesday.

Several incendiary balloons were sent from Gaza into Israel earlier on Tuesday causing multiple fires, according to the Israeli fire service.

It is the first major outbreak since after the fighting between Israel and Hamas ended in a ceasefire less than a month before on 21 May.

It followed a march by Jewish nationalists in occupied East Jerusalem on Tuesday, which had drawn threats from Hamas, the militant group that runs Gaza.

According to the Israel Army, its fighter jets had hit military compounds operated by Hamas in Khan Yunis and Gaza City.

It is not immediately clear if the airstrikes have caused any injuries.

An incendiary balloon (or balloon bomb) is a balloon inflated with a lighter-than-air gas such as hot air, hydrogen, or helium, that has a bomb, incendiary device. The balloon is carried by the prevailing winds to the target area, where it falls or releases its payload.
