Indian Army – Military Option to Deal with China If Talks Fail: General Bipin Rawat

Chief of Defense Staff General Bipin Rawat said the military option to deal with transgressions by the Chinese Army in Ladakh is on, but it will be exercised only if talks at the military and the diplomatic level fail.

New Delhi: General Bipin Rawat said today that India has “military options” to deal with China concerning the incursions in Ladakh if the military and the diplomatic stage talks do not deliver the desired results.

Deadlock in the part of Ladakh bordering China, where the Chinese army put up camps early this year, has not been resolved even with five rounds of talks between the military authorities of both India and China.

“The military option to deal with transgressions by the Chinese Army in Ladakh is on, but it will be exercised only if talks at the military and the diplomatic level fail,” General Rawat said. He, however, refused to talk about in detail the military alternatives that India could exercise to push back the Chinese troops.

Both India and China had agreed on disengagement since, but the withdrawal of troops is still not complete.

General Bipin Rawat also elaborated that defense Minister Rajnath Singh, National Security Advisor, Ajit Doval and all the other authorities responsible for national security are reviewing all options with the objective that PLA restores status quo ante in Ladakh.

The armed forces remain heavily deployed in the area to match the strength of Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) troopers in terms of both, men, and machine.

The stand-off between India and China which started in April-May had led to clashes and on June 15, 20 Indian soldiers were killed in action at Galwan Valley. The Indian Army also inflicted heavy casualties on Chinese soldiers in what turned out to be the worst clash between the troops of the two nations in more than five decades along the Line of Actual Control.
