Hyderabad: Hyderabad and several parts of Telangana are experiencing significant rainfall as forecasted by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) in Hyderabad. The IMD has predicted light to heavy rainfall in many areas of Telangana for Wednesday, with the intensity likely to reduce on Thursday. Thunderstorms and gusty winds of up to 40 km/h are expected in some districts on September 4, along with the potential for heavy, localized rainfall.

According to data from the Telangana Development Planning Society (TGDPS), Kumuram Bheem recorded the highest rainfall at 87.5 mm, followed by Adilabad (80.0 mm) and Jogulamba (65.5 mm). In the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) area, the Alwal circle saw the highest rainfall at 3.8 mm, while Serilingampally and Chandanagar recorded 3.3 mm each. Most regions received light to moderate rainfall, indicating uneven precipitation distribution.

Due to the continuous rain over the past two days, the IMD has issued a yellow alert for several districts, warning of heavy rain, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds over the next two days.

Despite the recent days of heavy rain and cloudy weather, Hyderabad experienced clear skies and pleasant weather on Tuesday, though light to moderate rains are expected later in the evening. Heavy rainfall is anticipated on Tuesday in districts like Komaram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Jayashankar Bhupalapally, Mulugu, and others. Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds (30-40 km/h) are likely in districts such as Medchal Malkajgiri, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak, Kamareddy, and Hyderabad.

For Wednesday, the IMD expects heavy rain in Komaram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Jayashankar Bhupalapally, and Mulugu. Thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are likely to continue in Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, and Mahabubabad.

These recent rains have pushed Hyderabad and Telangana into the ‘excess rainfall’ category, significantly exceeding normal levels. The state has recorded an average rainfall of 815.8 mm, which is 38% above the normal 592.5 mm. Hyderabad recorded 618 mm of rainfall, 30% above the usual 476.2 mm, with Khairatabad seeing the highest deviation at 736.5 mm—49% above the normal 493.6 mm.
