Greater Hyderabad to Get Advanced Underground Electric Cable Network, Says CM Revanth Reddy

Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has announced ambitious plans to modernize the state’s electricity infrastructure by implementing an advanced underground cable system across Greater Hyderabad, extending to the Outer Ring Road (ORR) limits.

Objective: Transitioning to an underground cable system aims to Reduce power losses, Minimize electricity theft, itigate disruptions caused by natural disasters like storms and floods, Scope: All types of cables, including power and telecommunications, will be laid underground to improve reliability and safety.

Officials have been instructed to study successful policies from other countries and prepare a comprehensive feasibility report.

Rising Electricity Demand: Telangana’s peak electricity demand is expected to increase from 15,623 MW in March 2024 to 16,877 MW by summer 2025.

Reddy urged the development of a robust plan for power generation and distribution to meet the growing demand.

Uninterrupted Power Supply: The Chief Minister emphasized ensuring continuous power supply, Proposed implementing alternative systems to handle outages due to technical failures.

Solar Power for Tribal Regions: Announced free provision of solar power systems and pump sets to households in tribal areas. Directed the Forest and Tribal Welfare departments to collaborate on this initiative, leveraging practices from other states for efficient execution.

Key Projects: Called for updates on the long-delayed 400 KV substation project in Parigi, pending for over ten years. Addressed the relocation of another substation due to construction at Osmania General Hospital in Goshamahal.

Review Meeting: The announcements were made during a review meeting held at the Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) on Saturday, January 11. Officials were instructed to prepare detailed implementation strategies to modernize urban infrastructure and ensure long-term sustainability in the power supply.
