Green Hyderabad, only Indian ‘Tree City’ among 51 Global Cities

Hyderabad recognized as only city from India among 51 global cities across the world by The United Nation’s Food and Agriculture Organization and the Arbor Day Foundation.

Hyderabad now among the elite cities for growing and maintaining urban forests. Most of the other cities are from the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia, etc.

On behalf of the Arbor Day Foundation and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, we write to congratulate Hyderabad on earning 2020 Tree Cities of the World recognition. In total, 120 cities from 63 countries were recognized alongside you. Your city is part of an important global network leading the way in urban and community forestry. Congratulations for earning this prestigious status!

Now more than ever, trees and forests are a vital component of healthy, livable, and sustainable cities and towns around the globe. Hyderabad’s commitment to effective urban forest management is helping to ensure a better future for its residents.

KTR, Minister of Municipal Administration & Urban Development Department, said in a tweet that, the Haritha Haram program and identification and development of Urban Forest Blocks had contributed to the recognition.
