Hyderabad Airport Celebrating 13 Years of Landmark Success

Hyderabad, 23 March: GMR Hyderabad International Airport, India’s first Greenfield airport under Public Private Partnership (PPP) model, will celebrate its 13th anniversary on March 23.

As India’s first modern, Greenfield airport developed under the PPP model, Hyderabad Airport has consistently raised the bar in terms of service and operational excellence.

The airport has consistently ranked in Airports Council International (ACI) – Airport Service Quality (ASQ) Passenger Survey as among the Global Top 3 airports for 9 consecutive years (2009 to 2017)

Hyderabad Airport ranked World No. 1 position for 4 times in 2009, 2010, 2016 & 2017 in 5 – 15 MPPA category; it ranked World No. 4 in 2018 in 15 – 25 MPPA category.

Hyderabad Airport has won the coveted ACI’s ASQ Departures Awards by being adjudged as the ‘Best Airport by Size and Region’ and its first ever ‘Best Airport in Environment & Ambience by Size’, both in Asia-Pacific region for 2019, in its category of 15-25 MPPA.

Recently, Hyderabad Airport has been recognized with the ACI World’s “Voice of Customer” recognition. This recognition was the result of its continuous efforts in gathering passenger feedback, understanding customer needs and ensuring customer voice was heard during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. During these trying times it is imperative for airports to listen to the voice of the customers to garner passenger confidence and revive the faith in flying and Hyderabad Airport has been very agile and customer centric in its operations.

Hyderabad Airport has also achieved the ACI’s Airport Health Accreditation (AHA) in the present COVID-19 pandemic times, when passenger safety is the top most priority of airport operators. The accreditation is the outcome of the rigorous assessment of Hyderabad International Airport on the alignment of its health measures with the ACI Aviation Business Restart and Recovery guidelines and ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization) Council Aviation Recovery Task Force (CART) Recommendations along with industry best practices. Hyderabad is among the first airports in Asia Pacific region to have received this coveted accreditation.

During the last 13 years, it achieved many other landmarks.

In 2021, All the domestic services operating from Hyderabad International Airport are on the e-boarding system, making Hyderabad the only airport in the country to offer 100 per cent ‘stamping-free’ travel to its domestic passengers.

 In 2019, DGCA permitted GHIAL to use stand-by secondary runway during night times.

In 2019, Airport became India’s first airport to induct a Cloud-based Central Irrigation Control System.

In 2018, international operations commenced at the Interim International Departures Terminal (IIDT). IIDT has an exclusive concourse to handle check-in, security, immigration and customs processes for departing international passengers and it is connected to the main Passenger Terminal Building.

In 2017, started offering ‘Express Security Check’ facility for passengers traveling with only hand baggage, the first and only airport in the country to do so.

In 2016, it became the only airport in India to handle the An-225, the world’s largest aircraft.

In 2015, became first airport in India to offer end-to-end E-boarding facility for all domestic flights, offering seamless and fully paperless experience for the passengers.

In 2015, 5 MW solar energy power plant was commissioned which led to reducing airport’s thermal electricity consumption

In 2014, Schulich Business School India Campus was inaugurated at the airport.

In 2012, GMR Aero Technic, a world-class 3rd Party Airframe MRO, was inaugurated.

In 2012, GMR Aviation Academy at Hyderabad Airport becoming an IATA Authorised Training Centre.

In 2010, India’s first and only dedicated Pharma Zone was commissioned at GMR Hyderabad Air Cargo.

In 2009 it commissioned India’s first and only aerospace park in an airport.

The airport is operated by a joint venture company promoted by the GMR Group (63 per cent) in partnership with the Airports Authority of India (13 per cent), the Telangana government (13 per cent) and Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (11 per cent).
