Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) is set to enhance international connectivity by launching direct flights to ten new destinations over the next 12 to 18 months. This expansion aims to streamline travel, boost economic ties, and strengthen Hyderabad’s position as a global aviation hub.
Phase One: Upcoming Destinations
In the first phase, RGIA will introduce direct flights to the following cities within the next six months:
- Hong Kong – A major financial hub offering extensive business and tourism opportunities.
- Hanoi, Vietnam – The capital of Vietnam, known for its rich cultural heritage.
- Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – A crucial gateway to Africa, enhancing connectivity with the continent.
- Amsterdam, Netherlands – A key European center for trade and tourism.
These new routes are expected to reduce travel times and provide more convenient options for travelers.
Phase Two: Future Destinations
Following the successful launch of the first phase, RGIA is in advanced discussions with airlines to introduce additional direct flights over the next 12 to 18 months:
- Paris, France – Strengthening ties with one of Europe’s major cultural and economic centers.
- Australia – Cities yet to be announced, but flights will significantly cut travel time.
- Kathmandu, Nepal – Facilitating easier access for tourism and pilgrimage.
- Krabi, Thailand – Direct connectivity to Thailand’s popular beach destinations.
- Jakarta, Indonesia – Strengthening business and tourism links with Southeast Asia’s largest economy.
- Denpasar, Bali – Direct flights to one of the world’s most famous island destinations.
With these additions, Hyderabad is set to become a critical aviation hub in South Asia.
Recent Expansions in International Connectivity
RGIA has already strengthened its global presence with the introduction of several direct flights:
- Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam – VietJet launched bi-weekly direct flights in March 2025, operating on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
- Phuket, Thailand – Air India Express introduced direct flights on January 31, 2025, operating thrice weekly, with plans to increase to six weekly flights from February 15, 2025.
Impact on Travelers
The introduction of these new flights will offer several benefits:
- Reduced Travel Time – Eliminating layovers will cut travel durations significantly. For instance, flights to Australia currently involve layovers of up to 14 hours in Singapore or Bangkok. The new direct flights will reduce this to around 7-8 hours.
- Greater Convenience – Non-stop flights will make international travel smoother and more efficient.
- Economic & Educational Growth – Enhanced connectivity will benefit students, professionals, and businesses engaged in global markets.
With RGIA’s ongoing expansion, Hyderabad travelers can look forward to a more seamless international travel experience.
