Hyderabad Metro Speeds Up Land Acquisition in Old City; 1,200 Properties to be Affected

Hyderabad Metro Rail Ltd (HMRL) is expediting land acquisition for the Old City Metro project between Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station (MGBS) and Chandrayangutta, covering 7.5 km. Approximately 1,200 properties will be impacted, with road widening and Metro station construction requiring up to 120 feet of road width in some areas.

  • Properties Affected: 1,200 properties, with notifications already issued for 400.
  • Road Widening: Roads are being expanded from 50-60 feet to 100 feet, and 120 feet at station locations.
  • Land Acquisition Process: Expected to take about 8 months, with protection measures for 103 religious and sensitive structures.
  • Survey Methods: Lidar drone surveys and physical inspections are being conducted for accurate property assessment.
  • Historical Context: The project was delayed for years but revived by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, who extended the Metro line to Chandrayangutta.
