Hyderabad Airport Roof Leakage Raises Concerns After Heavy Rains

Hyderabad: On August 19, 2024, heavy rainfall in Hyderabad led to water leakage inside the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA). The rain, which began around 1 PM and lasted for 50 minutes, brought 35.2 mm of precipitation, with 17 mm falling within just 10 minutes. This intense downpour caused water to seep into the terminal at a specific location, raising concerns about the airport’s infrastructure during extreme weather.

A video circulating on social media shows passengers navigating through the terminal as water drips from the roof, sparking discussions about the need for urgent repairs and better preparedness for future incidents. The airport authorities acknowledged the leakage, stating that an inspection revealed no blockage or stagnation on the roof. They are collaborating with technical experts to prevent such occurrences in the future and apologized for the inconvenience caused.

This incident comes after the airport was named the best in India and South Asia at the 2023 Skytrax World Airport Awards, which are highly regarded in the industry and based on global customer satisfaction surveys.
