Hussain Sagar Overflowing from Heavy Rains in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: With abnormal rains hitting the Hyderabad city and the surrounding areas since the previous few days, the water level in Hussain Sagar lake achieved the full capacity of 513.41 meters. In fact, the water level on Sunday was recorded more than the full capacity at 513.64 meters.

However, GHMC officials said people do not need to panic as the Hussain sagar lake has been designed in a way that 1.50 meters can flow above the maximum water level of 514.91 meters. The GHMC lakes official is continuously observing the scenario.

Twenty-one sluice gates are installed for the water body several decades ago and officials have been guaranteeing that all the garbage and rubbish at the vents has been cleared regularly.

At present, the situation is under control and there was nothing to panic.

Residents living in the downstream areas of Domalguda, Himayatnagar, Liberty and Ashok Nagar will have to be careful as more rains are anticipated in coming days, said the official.

Before the water is released downstream, an alert is issued to ensure the safety of the citizens in low-lying areas, said a senior GHMC official.
