Hyderabad: Authorities have called high alert of flood in Musi river here as the water levels in both city reservoirs Himayat Sagar and Osman Sagar upstream have reached to the overflow following heavy rains in catchment areas.
The authorities are likely to release the excess flood water from Himayat Sagar and Osman Sagar into Musi, which passes through the city.
Officials said Saturday night that Osman Sagar is full now and it is getting an inflow of 20,000 cusecs. “Gates may be opened any time,” they said.
The gates of Himayat Sagar are also likely to be opened Saturday night as the reservoir is receiving huge inflows due to heavy rainfall in the catchment areas.
With Himayath Sagar tank filling up quickly due to the heavy rains of the last few days, authorities have been put on high alert amid possibilities of water being released down the river on Sunday.
After almost 10 year, the water levels in the Himayath Sagar tank have risen to just 10 feet short of the brim following which the district collectors, police commissioners, GHMC and other departments have been put on alert.
