Hezbollah Launches Rockets at Israel – Fears of All-Out War Grow in Middle East

Middle East: Hezbollah has said it had launched dozens of Katyusha rockets at Israel, the latest in a series of attacks it says is in support of the Palestinian people. The Iran-backed group said on Saturday its latest attack, on Beit Hillel in northern Israel, was in response to Israel’s attacks on Kfar Kela and Deir Siriane in Lebanon which, it said, had injured civilians there.Israeli Channel 14 reported that at least 50 rockets were fired toward the Upper Galilee. Sirens were heard as a result of the launches.

Recent escalations in the Middle East have intensified following the assassinations of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh and Hezbollah’s military chief Fuad Shukr. This has spurred calls for retaliation from Iran, Hamas, and Hezbollah, with Hezbollah launching rockets into northern Israel. The US, UK, and France have advised their citizens to leave Lebanon, while Canada has warned against traveling to Israel. The Pentagon is increasing its military presence in the region. The war in Gaza has caused severe destruction and displacement, with worsening public health conditions reported by the UN. The killing of Haniyeh has cast doubt on the effectiveness of ongoing truce negotiations led by Qatar, Egypt, and the US, amid growing fears of a wider regional conflict.
