Hyderabad: Heavy rain and thunderstorms caused by the severe cyclonic storm Remal in the Bay of Bengal have resulted in 13 deaths across Telangana. The storm uprooted trees, damaged electricity and communication towers, and disrupted transport and power supply, affecting several districts including Hyderabad.
Nagarkurnool district was the worst hit, with seven fatalities, including four people who died when an under-construction poultry shed collapsed in Tandoor village. The victims included a father and daughter and two construction workers. Three other deaths in the district were caused by lightning.
In Hyderabad, two people died when an uprooted tree fell on them while they were riding a motorcycle in Shamirpet, and two more, including a three-year-old child, were killed by falling bricks in Hafeezpet.
Other affected districts included Medak, where two deaths were reported, as well as Ranga Reddy, Medchal Malkajgiri, Nalgonda, Mahabubnagar, Jogulamba-Gadwal, Wanaparthy, Yadadri-Bhongir, Sangareddy, and Vikarabad. The storm caused widespread power outages and road blockages due to fallen trees and debris.
