Haiti Struck by Deadly Earthquake, 304 Killed, More than 1,800 Injured

Haiti: The 7.2-magnitude quake hit the west of Haiti’s southern peninsula on Saturday morning, toppling and damaging buildings including churches and hotels.

The death toll from Saturday’s devastating earthquake in Haiti has jumped to at least 304, and more than 1,800 persons injured.

Haiti’s civil protection service has said. Hundreds more are injured or missing, and several towns across the island nation lie in ruins.

The prime minister said there was “extensive damage” in some areas, and declared a month-long state of emergency.

According to US Geological Survey, The epicenter of Saturday’s quake was about 12km (7.5 miles) from the town of Saint-Louis du Sud.

A massive earthquake struck leveling buildings in multiple towns and settlements and filling streets with debris. Civil protection officials initially put the death toll to at least 304. Lots of homes are destroyed, people are dead and some are at the hospital.

The tremor was felt in the densely populated capital of Port-au-Prince, some 125km away, and neighbouring countries.
