Fire in Srisailam Hydel Power Plant, 6 Dead, Search in process for More

Hyderabad: A major fire broke out in Srisailam Hydel Power Plant, Six bodies recovered from the plant by rescue team from inside the underground project and the search is on for three more persons who were among the nine that were trapped inside the hydel power station.

Another Ten persons escaped while fire erupted in the first unit of the Srisailam left bank hide power generation unit in Nagarkurnool district after midnight due to which fumes have engulfed entire underground power generation station. According to preliminary reports the fire could have been a result of a short circuit.

There were total 19 workers inside the generation unit at the time of the fire accident, eight have escaped safely by running outside from the tunnel.

Immediately power generation was stopped, and firefighting units and rescue teams were working hard in darkness and heavy fumes to rescue the trapped persons.

G Jagadish Reddy Energy Minister, Prabhakar Rao Transco CMD, Guvvala Balraj MLA, and District Collector and Superintendent of police reached the spot and are supervising the rescue operation.

Rescue teams have said that there are three emergency exits through which the trapped members can be rescued but only after the fumes subside.

The Trapped staff includes Deputy Engineer Srinivas Goud (Hyderabad), Assistant Engineers Venkatrao (Palvancha), Uzma Fatima (Hyderabad) , Sunder (Suryapet) , Junior Plant Attendant Kiran and Plant Attendant Rambabu (Khammam) and two staff members Vinesh Kumar and Mahesh Kumar of a Hyderabad based company.
