Fact-Check Debunks Viral Video Accusing Telangana Man of Contaminating Gulab Jamun, AIMIM MLA Majid Hussain Filed Complaint

Hyderabad: Recently, a video surfaced on social media, purportedly showing a man urinating in a tub of gulab jamun in Telangana. This video was widely circulated by right-wing Hindu trolls on X, targeting a minority community by claiming they engage in unhygienic food practices. However, a fact-check by Alt News journalist Mohammed Zubair revealed that the man was actually pouring a transparent liquid from a bottle into the tub, and the video had been deliberately shortened to incite hatred.

Following the fact-check, AIMIM Nampally MLA Majid Hussain filed a complaint with the Telangana police, resulting in a case being registered. The cybercrime police have charged the perpetrators under sections 66(C) and 66(D) of the IT Act for forgery, and sections 196(1), 299, and 336(4) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) for attempting to create unrest and outrage religious sentiments using technology.

This incident is part of a broader pattern where right-wing social media trolls target the Muslim community with fabricated claims such as ‘thook jihad,’ alleging that Muslims spit into food and on people. These conspiracy theories aim to economically marginalize the Muslim community.
