Expressing Views Different from Government Opinion, Not Seditious

Supreme Court Reject Plea, Petitioners Fined Rs 50,000

New Delhi, 03 March: Expression of views that are different from government opinion cannot be considered “sedition”, the Supreme Court said today, and dismiss a plea against Former Chief Minister Jammu and Kashmir, MP Farooq Abdullah.

The supreme court in judgement said, “Expression of views which are dissent and different from government opinion cannot be termed as seditious,”

The supreme court further said, the petitioner Rajat Sharma and Neh Srivastava failed to substantiate their allegation that Farooq Abdullah had requested the help from China, Pakistan against India government on Article 370 on special status for Jammu and Kashmir, which was scrapped in August 2019 by the BJP led government.

The supreme court also fined ₹ 50,000 on petitioners Rajat Sharma and Neh Srivastava.
