CM Revanth Reddy Announces Plans for 1,000-Acre New Zoo Park on Hyderabad Outskirts

Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has proposed the construction of a new zoo park on the outskirts of Hyderabad. This initiative was discussed during a review meeting at the state secretariat on August 30, where the chief minister reviewed various SPEED (Smart, Proactive, Efficient, and Effective Delivery) projects.

Key Highlights:

  • New Zoo Park Proposal: A new zoo park is planned on the outskirts of Hyderabad, spanning over 1,000 acres. The zoo will house a variety of wild animals and birds sourced from different regions. The aim is to complement the existing Nehru Zoological Park in Hyderabad, which covers 380 acres and is located near Mir Alam Tank.
  • Existing Nehru Zoo Park: Nehru Zoo Park, established in 1963, currently houses 2,240 animals, including mammals, birds, reptiles, and amphibians. It is known for its natural landscape, which attracts both migratory and resident birds. The zoo also has an animal adoption program that supports wildlife conservation.

  • Tourism and Development Plans: A new tourism policy will be developed, studying successful models from other states and focusing on eco, temple, and health tourism. The chief minister suggested the development of urban forests and potential partnerships with private entities for enhanced resource mobilization. The development of heli-tourism is also being considered where feasible.
  • Health and Nature Tourism Initiatives: The 200 acres of government land at Ananthagiri are earmarked for the development of health tourism, including a nature wellness center modeled after the Jindal Naturecure Institute in Bengaluru.
  • Collaboration with Private Sector: The Chief Minister mentioned Anant Ambani’s Vantara animal shelter in Jamnagar as an example of private sector involvement. He encouraged industrialists and organizations to participate in similar initiatives.
  • Immediate Actions: The chief minister has asked officials to submit a comprehensive report within a week on the progress of the development works discussed in the meeting.

These initiatives reflect a significant push by the Telangana government towards enhancing tourism, wildlife conservation, and sustainable development around Hyderabad.
