Car Crashes into Door at Makkah Grand Mosque, Driver in ‘Abnormal’ Condition Arrested

The driver who allegedly appears to be in Ihram who breached the courtyard of the Masjid Al Haram and hit the gate of the Mosque using his car.

Makkah: Saudi security authorities arrested a man who crashed his car into one of the doors of the Grand Mosque in the holy city of Makkah on Friday.

A video was circulating earlier of an incident at Masjid Al Haram where a car drove through barriers.

The driver who allegedly appears to be in Ihram who breached the courtyard of the Masjid Al Haram and hit the gate of the Mosque using his car.

The car was running at high speed on a road surrounding the southern square the Grand Mosque, also known Masjid Haramain, said the official spokesman of Makkah region, Sultan Al-Dossari.

He said the incident happened on Friday at around 10:30 p.m.

Security Officials immediately responded to the incident to ensure all worshippers were safe from Haram.

It said investigators have found that the driver of the car was a Saudi citizen “in an abnormal condition.” 

The offender is being arrested and referred to the Public Prosecution office, it said.
