“Can Lose 1,000 Jobs For Mother’s Respect”: Cop Who Slapped Kangana Ranaut

CISF Constable Allegedly Slapped BJP MP at Chandigarh Airport Over 2020 Farmers’ Protest Comment

Chandigarh: Kulvinder Kaur, the CISF Constable who was suspended and arrested after allegedly slapping actor and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut at Chandigarh airport, took a defiant stance on Friday. She posted on X (formerly Twitter), “I am not afraid of losing this job… I am ready to lose thousands of such jobs for my mother’s respect.”

Ms. Kaur allegedly slapped Ms. Ranaut, who represents Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi constituency, while the latter was waiting to board a flight to Delhi. Kaur accused Ranaut of “disrespecting farmers.” The altercation, reportedly captured on video, went viral online. Following the incident, Kaur was suspended, an inquiry was ordered, and she was arrested.

The confrontation reportedly stemmed from a 2020 remark by Ranaut about protests against the Modi government’s farm laws. These laws sparked a massive nationwide agitation, with tens of thousands of farmers blocking access to Delhi. In a viral video of the incident, Ms. Ranaut can be seen escorted to a check-in counter, where an altercation with Kaur ensues, although the video does not show the slap.

Ranaut, initially silent, later expressed concerns about “terrorism rising in Punjab.” She recounted the incident, stating, “The woman guard waited for me to cross, then hit me and started throwing expletives. When I asked why she hit me, she said, ‘I support farmers.’ I am safe, but my concern is terrorism is rising in Punjab. How do we handle that?”

Ms. Kaur referenced a controversial tweet by Ranaut from 2020, where she crudely suggested that farmers at the protests were paid ₹100, a comment that drew widespread criticism and was later deleted.

The 2020/21 farmers’ protest, which led to significant political repercussions for the BJP in states like Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, saw multiple run-ins between Ranaut and the protesting farmers. Her convoy was blocked by agitators during a campaign in Chandigarh.

Following Kaur’s arrest, some farmer groups, including the non-political wing of the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM), voiced support for her and called for a thorough investigation. SKM leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal emphasized the need for justice, highlighting Kaur’s request to inspect Ranaut’s handbag and mobile phone as a potential trigger for the incident.

Ranaut has had other controversial moments, including a February 2021 tweet attacking pop star Rihanna for her support of the farmers’ protest, calling the protesters “terrorists.” This tweet was also deleted after backlash.

Kulvinder Kaur posted on “X” as …

I don’t care about the job, Thousands of such jobs are sacrificed for the honor of a mother- Kulwinder Kaur
