BRS Declares All-Out War to Musi Demolition Drive, Offers Legal Aid to Affected Families

Hyderabad: The BRS (Bharat Rashtra Samithi) has declared a strong opposition to the Congress-led Telangana government’s demolition drive as part of the Musi riverfront beautification project in Hyderabad. The demolitions have put many families at risk of displacement, with BRS leader and former Minister T. Harish Rao expressing deep concern for the affected. During a meeting at Telangana Bhavan, Rao assured the displaced families that the BRS would provide round-the-clock legal support and challenge the demolitions in court. He criticized the government’s “bulldozer justice” approach, which he claimed tarnishes the image of Hyderabad as a welcoming, global city.

Rao called for a more compassionate and inclusive urban development strategy that prioritizes citizens’ welfare and urged the government to reconsider its plans. He appealed to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, referencing his opposition to similar demolition drives in other states, to intervene and halt the project. Rao demanded an all-party meeting to address the concerns of over 25,000 families affected by the Musi project.

In a show of solidarity, Rao announced that a delegation of BRS MLAs would visit the localities marked for demolition. He criticized the government for demolishing homes without prior notice, contrasting this with the extended grace period given to the Chief Minister’s brother for a similar demolition. Rao also highlighted the tragic cases of women who died due to the stress caused by the drive, calling these deaths “murders” by the Congress government. He emphasized the need for a balanced approach to urban development that does not disrupt the lives of vulnerable citizens.

Protests have erupted in areas like Langer Houz, Attapur, and Rajendranagar, where citizens are opposing the relocation and raising slogans against Chief Minister Revanth Reddy.
