Hyderabad: A 27-year-old pregnant woman named Maddikatla Sunitha, who was declared brain dead after a road accident, delivered a healthy baby girl. On June 8, Sunitha, who was nine months pregnant, was severely injured in a collision while traveling on a two-wheeler with her husband. She was rushed to KIMS Hospitals, Secunderabad, where she gave birth during treatment.
Despite the birth of her healthy daughter, Sunitha’s condition did not improve, and doctors declared her brain dead on Tuesday. Following this, Jeevandan coordinators conducted grief counselling sessions with her family. Sunitha’s husband and relatives consented to donate her organs, contributing to the State-run Jeevandan organ donation initiative.
Surgeons successfully retrieved her liver and two kidneys, which were then allocated to patients in need. Jeevandan officials commended the family’s altruistic decision, noting that their donation has provided new hope and life to others.
