Hyderabad: After 15-hour long search operations, the body of Naveen Kumar, who was swept away due to heavy rain into the Saroornagar Lake on Sunday afternoon was recovered at 3 pm today.
Naveen Kumar (45), an electrician from Almasguda, was on his way from Tapovan Colony towards Saroornagar when his scooter broke down.
Naveen Kumar was pushing the bike when he got washed away in the flow of the canal which was recently built near the Saroornagar Lake.
Though locals who saw him and tried to rescue him, but the heavy rains and growing waters that flows into the lake defeated all their efforts.
Seven special teams including from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and Disaster Response Team (DRT) of the GHMC and the Saroornagar police to launch a rescue mission just after Naveen Kumar was washed away in the stream leading into the lake around 7 pm on Sunday.
“We were searching with boats in the stream since last night and recovered his body in the water about 100 meters away from the spot where he went missing. The stream is a bit shallow and the water was muddy, which delayed the efforts,” police said.
Mahesh Bhagwat, Rachakonda Police commissioner personally supervised the search operations at the lake.
