Major Blast at Shadnagar Company Kills Four, Injures Several

Hyderabad: A devastating blast at South Glass Private Limited in the industrial area of Burugulla, Farooq Nagar, Shadnagar, resulted in the deaths of four people and injuries to at least 15 others on Friday. The victims, primarily migrant workers from Odisha, Bihar, and Uttar Pradesh, were caught in the explosion.

The incident is believed to have been caused by the pressure buildup in the compressor furnace, leading to a massive fire. The blast occurred in the evening while approximately 200 workers were present, engaged in the manufacturing and quality testing of toughened, laminated, and solar control automobile glasses.

Details of the Incident:

  • Cause: Suspected gas pressure buildup in the compressor furnace.
  • Time: Evening, with around 200 workers in the facility.
  • Process: Routine testing of glass strength and durability using a gas chamber.

“There is a proper mechanism in place wherein the gas pressure gets cut off after reaching a required point. However, the gas pressure built up and led to the blast,” explained a police official.

The blast severely affected workers in the immediate vicinity. Police and fire department officials promptly initiated a rescue operation, deploying five fire engines to combat the fire and smoke. Four bodies were recovered from the site, and the injured were transported to a nearby private hospital. Among the injured, three are reported to be in critical condition.

Although the fire was brought under control by night, search operations continued to ensure no individuals remained trapped within the premises. The Shadnagar police are investigating the incident.
