Hyderabad: AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi has voiced concerns over the changes made in NCERT textbooks regarding the Babri Masjid demolition.
In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), Owaisi emphasized that children should not grow up glorifying criminal acts and should be aware that the Supreme Court labeled the demolition of Babri Masjid as an “egregious criminal act.” He highlighted the importance of educating children about the events where a functioning masjid was “desecrated” in 1949 and subsequently demolished by a mob in 1992.

Owaisi’s remarks come in response to recent modifications in NCERT’s Class 12 political science textbooks, where references to the Babri Masjid have been altered. The revised textbooks describe the structure as a “three-domed structure” and have reduced the Ayodhya section from four pages to two, focusing more on the Supreme Court’s judgment that led to the construction of a Ram temple at the site. This judgment has been widely accepted across the country.
NCERT director Dinesh Prasad Saklani defended the changes, stating that they are part of the annual revision process and should not be a cause for concern.
