AP Leaders Want to Extend Hyderabad as Common Capital for Telangana and AP

Hyderabad: With the deadline approaching for Hyderabad to cease being the common capital of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, leaders across party lines are urging for its extension as per the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act.

Former CBI Joint Director VV Lakshmi Narayana has called for all political parties in Andhra Pradesh to advocate for maintaining Hyderabad as the joint capital beyond the initial ten-year period. However, this suggestion has faced criticism on social media, with users highlighting the impracticality and urging Andhra Pradesh to develop its capital.

Andhra Pradesh Congress vice-president Kolanukonda Shivaji and former Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams Chairman YV Subba Reddy have also voiced similar demands, citing the lack of progress in building a new capital for Andhra Pradesh. Shivaji suggested extending Hyderabad’s status for another decade, while Reddy proposed maintaining the shared capital until the executive capital moves to Visakhapatnam from Amaravati.
