Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) became the third major NDA member to pull out of the grouping after the Shiv Sena and the Telugu Desam Party (TDP).
Amritsar:The Akali Dal of Punjab, one of the oldest allies of the NDA/BJP, quits the ruling party’s National Democratic Alliance (NDA) after severe disagreements over the three controversial farm bills passed in parliament earlier this month.
“The decision-making body of the Shiromani Akali Dal committee in its emergency meeting here tonight chose unanimously to quit the BJP-led NDA alliance,”
Akali Dal chief Sukhbir Singh Badal said in Chandigarh, calling the bills “lethal and disastrous” for its key voter base of farmers.
With this, the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) became the third major NDA member to pull out of the grouping after the Shiv Sena and the Telugu Desam Party (TDP).
Harsimrat Kaur Badal (Mr. Badal’s wife) had already resigned as a union minister protesting last week as the farm bills.
