AIMPLB to Hold Protest Meeting Against Waqf Amendment Act in Hyderabad on April 19

Hyderabad: The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) will organize a protest meeting in Hyderabad on April 19 against the recently passed Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025. The announcement was made by AIMIM president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi during a press interaction on Sunday.

The protest meeting is scheduled to be held at Darussalam, the AIMIM headquarters in Hyderabad, from 7 PM to 10 PM. It will be led by AIMPLB president Khalid Saifullah Rahmani.

Owaisi stated that members of the Muslim Personal Law Board from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh will participate in the event, along with representatives from other Muslim organizations across the two states. The gathering aims to raise awareness among the public about the implications of the Waqf (Amendment) Act, which the organizers claim is detrimental to the interests of Waqf properties and the Muslim community.

Speakers at the protest meeting will highlight their concerns over the Act and its legal and constitutional ramifications. Owaisi mentioned that efforts are also being made to invite members of the Parliament Waqf Committee, and their participation is expected subject to their availability.

President Droupadi Murmu gave her assent to the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025, on April 5, following its passage in Parliament earlier this month.

Owaisi criticized the legislation, calling it “unconstitutional” and asserting that it violates several provisions of the Indian Constitution, including Articles 14, 15, 25, 26, and 29. “This Act is not in favour of Muslims,” he said.

He also appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to reconsider the law, alleging that it reflects a specific ideological agenda. “You are making a law that goes against the Constitution of India. Your ideology should be Indian nationalism and the Constitution, not something imposed,” Owaisi remarked.
