ACB Raids ACP (CCS) Umamaheshwar Rao, Friends Residence in Hyderabad, and AP

Hyderabad: The Telangana Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested Central Crime Station (CCS) ACP Uma Maheswara Rao on Tuesday for allegedly possessing assets beyond his known legal income. Rao, who was the Chief Special Officer investigating the multi-crore Sahitya Infra fraud case, had his house in Ashok Nagar searched by ACB officials for over 10 hours. Searches were also conducted at the homes of his friends in Hyderabad, the CCS office, and two locations in Andhra Pradesh.

The ACB identified 17 properties owned by Rao, including five in Ghatkesar, and seized Rs 38 lakh in cash and 600 grams of gold from his residence. The total value of the seized assets is estimated at around Rs 3 crore. Crucial property documents were also found in his bank lockers.

Rao has faced previous corruption allegations from his tenure as ACP Ibrahimpatnam. In the Sahitya Infra case, he was accused of accepting bribes from the accused. He allegedly extorted money in land disputes by siding with perpetrators. Rao also allegedly threatened BJP leader Charan Chaudhary and, with the help of Task Force DCP Radhakishan Rao, arranged a Rs 30 lakh transfer through Charan’s friends. Radhakishan Rao is currently in judicial remand for his role in the infamous phone-tapping case.

The ACB had been monitoring Rao after receiving complaints about his suspicious accumulation of assets beyond his known income.
