Indore: 2 college students among four Muslims, were arrested from a college Garba event in Indore, Madhya Pradesh on Sunday.
Bajrang Dal, a right-wing group with ties to the ruling BJP in Madhya Pradesh allegedly barged in the event, accusing the college of promoting “love jihad”.

The Oxford college has been fined by the police for violating Covid norms. “The sub-divisional magistrate of the concerned area had permitted Garba at the venue for one day (Sunday) till 9 pm for a maximum of 800 visitors. But the numbers present at the venue were found to be around 5,000-7000, owing to which the local SDM Parag Jain canceled the permission at 8.30 pm on Sunday. A case has been registered against the Garba organizer Akshay Tiwari under Section 188 IPC,” the ASP said on Tuesday.
No action was taken against the Bajrang Dal members, the group that stormed the college festivities.
Prashant Chaubey, a senior police officer defended the arrests as a move to restore peace and said, “When we reached the spot, 5,000 people had gathered there. An FIR was registered against the college and we arrested four young men to maintain peace,”
The arrested men and their families say they were targeted based on their name, even though they showed their college IDs.
Adnan Shah, 21, a second-year B. Com student of the same college was helping students park their vehicles at the event at the request of the committee organizing the Garba event.
According to Adnan Shah, there were 25 student volunteers present there but I was separated from them and was arrested after I showed them my identity card.
