Police Arrest Robbers in 24 Hours of Jagadamba Jewellers at Medchal

Hyderabad: police arrested two suspects involved in a botched robbery attempt at Jagadamba Jewelers in Kompally. The suspects, Nazim Aziz Kotadia (36) and Shaik Sohail (23) entered the store with Aziz clad in a burka. They threatened the owner with a knife but fled when the owner escaped and raised an alarm. The suspects drove off on a bike, later abandoned it, and escaped in an auto-rickshaw.

The police identified and tracked down the suspects by analyzing around 160 CCTV footage and through intensive investigation by 16 police teams. Aziz, previously involved in a similar crime, was arrested first, followed by Sohail. Their accomplice Salman remains at large. The gang had scouted ten jewelry shops in Hyderabad and its surroundings before targeting Jagadamba Jewelers. Aziz, originally from Mumbai, moved to Hyderabad after working in the United States, China, and Africa, turning to crime after business losses.

Earlier… In Medchal, on Hyderabad’s outskirts, a jeweler and his son thwarted a robbery at their shop. Two men, one in a burqa and another wearing a helmet launched a violent attack around 1:45 pm on Thursday. The man in the burqa stabbed the shop owner, Sesharam, in the shoulder while the other began collecting jewelry and cash.

Despite his injury, Sesharam and his son, Suresh, managed to prevent the theft. Suresh’s loud cries for help and his action of throwing chairs at the robbers forced them to flee, leaving the stolen goods behind. The robbers escaped on a motorcycle before the police arrived.

CCTV footage showed Sesharam chasing the robbers and Suresh throwing a chair at the fleeing suspects. The incident occurred just 25 meters from a local police station, but ongoing flyover construction led to the removal of 25 CCTV cameras in the area. The robbers left no fingerprints as they were wearing gloves.

Senior police officer Narsimha Reddy mentioned that specialized teams have been formed to track down the suspects. The use of Hindi by the robbers suggests a possible link to the Bawariya Gang, known for robbery and snatching incidents in Hyderabad.
